Friendship Camp has a new gravel parking lot!
The Camp Development Committee approved construction of a new parking lot near the Dining Hall earlier this year.
Gary and Brian Simmons cleared and leveled the ground in May. In late September, 500 tons of crushed gravel was delivered to the campgrounds.
Stephen Fripp, the pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, loaned his backhoe for use on the project. That allowed FBA Associational Missionary Charles Stoops, camp development chairman Paul Mott, and Camp Manager Colten Cannady to begin spreading the gravel on September 26.
The men also installed a culvert.
“The parking lot is intended to service about sixty vehicles and is safer and more convenient than the previous parking arrangements,” said Bro. Colten.
The committee felt led to begin work on the parking lot before tickets for the Season Opener Dinner went on sale. The additional parking lot was completed less than two weeks before that event. The space was needed with over 400 men in attendance.
The committee plans to add a sidewalk, steps, and three handicap spaces in the near future.
