Advancing in Ministry’s summer discipleship program began yesterday on May 28 with an unusual twist. The missionaries arrived at Friendship Camp and almost immediately went to work on a concrete project.

Dining Hall Sidewalk

The Friendship Camp Development completed work on the new gravel parking lot beside the dining hall last fall, but planned to add a sidewalk. Extreme weather and rainy days set the project back multiple times.

Bro. Charles Stoops, Associational Missionary, and Bro. Paul Mott, Camp Development Chairman, finally scheduled the concrete truck for Tuesday, May 28.

However, a surprise Memorial Day thunderstorm threatened to delay the project once again.

AIM Joins the Work

When the AIM Missionaries arrived at the camp yesterday morning, they picked up tools and set to work.

They also created concrete molds to patch the camp road before summer camps start.

They finished in time for a late lunch. This was followed by the traditional opening meeting and prayer time.

Bro. Johnny Brooks, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church, Lester Jones, and John Crook also assisted in this project.

Advancing in Ministry is the discipleship and leadership training program of the Friendship Baptist Association. Each summer, AIM brings on high school and college-aged Christians who feel a call to serve God. The interns spend six weeks at Friendship Camp in intensive Bible study and ministry training.

Many former AIM missionaries have gone on to be active leaders in their churches or even on the foreign mission field.
